Forget everything you know about travel
We are Yak Vans, a new company based in Dallas, TX.
Our mission is to promote nature, wildlife conservation and our national parks. We think the best way to do that is to allow everyone to share in our passion. Vans!
We enjoy being outdoors, and seeing all the amazing sites; finding those remote ghost town and staying somewhere remote. However, non of us really enjoy pitching a tent, and sleeping in the cold on top of rocks - though we can’t always avoid it. Renting an RV is a disaster - learning to navigate the complex systems, driving a huge vehicle that can’t maneuver in small streets and certainly nothing off-road. And worst of all, you have to find designated parking sites and, finally… clean the black water tank.
There is a better way. An off-grid , clean, environmentally friendly way.
We created Yak Vans so that we can share our passion for adventure with you.
Message from the Founders:
“I’ve owned vans, and sometimes more than one at the same time, over the past 20 years. It’s my way of simply taking off on an adventure at a moments notice. Whether it is surfing, camping, skiing, sightseeing, tailgating… everything was always in my van and ready to go. Reality is that it’s expensive — I paid for many vans, and spent weeks/month building and fixing them. The value proposition is not there unless you are ready for the time and cost.
I founded Yak Vans to allow everyone to enjoy and learn if owning / building a van conversion is right for you. If it’s not, then you saved yourself a lot of problems, and money. You can rent right here anytime the urge for adventure is there. And, If you decide owning a van it is right for you, then we are also here to make it happen.”
New way of exploring
A little more history
It all started out in San Diego, CA with an old Volkswagen Van. Countless adventures traveling up and down the coast and venturing into the mountains in search of amazing trails, and solitude.
Three years ago we moved to Dallas in pursuit of the corporate dream. The van was packed, and after a quick stop at the Grand Canyon; breaking down in Flagstaff for the day; finally made our way to Dallas.
We found it very difficult to explain to others the amazing experience it was to drive off without worrying about pitching a tent late at night, or gathering wood for a fire. It was just easy to pickup and go - just needed a quick duffel bag.
It took some time before we realized there was a need to let other see the world through our lens. So we cleaned up the van and started Yak Vans. For those that keep asking, our original van with 300,000 miles is still alive and you can rent her.
Very soon thereafter we acquired a new Van because many of our customers wanted more space, air conditioning, and automatic transmission - and no mechanical tribulations. We designed the van to be a true sanctuary no matter where the adventure takes you and we are happy to share her.
